Protestant Movement

Question: What is the reason behind the negative connotation associated the term “Puritan”?

It is a derogatory word/description; used by particularly the Roman Church, against the “Protestants” in the 1,600s onwards.

When people became more able to read, and when new Bible translations emerged and were available; even against the Forces of the Roman Church and politicians; many questions on the Roman teachings were presented, but were still held down for a considerable period, by Church and state; under pain of death (burning alive)!

The eventual outcome (despite the Inquisition; torture until dead if the person would not denounce Salvation in Christ Jesus); was mass movement to new lands, of which the Americas (USA), was one result!

There were many hero’s at that time, some who suffered the final penalty; an outstanding hero was/is Martin Luther, who was very brave in all his tribulations against the RC Church; but was saved from death by rich and influential prominent men.  Martin’s work was really stunted by his travails with the RC; but he was able to give impetus to a process which has continued since; and is still in progress, as many groups do not agree on the same principles of Bible understanding!
